The vibrant Stamford Downtown is the central business district complete with a shopping mall, Fortune 500 companies, movie theaters and entertainment venues. Stamford is also just a 50-minute train ride to NYC.

The Stamford Center for the Arts is dedicated to being the region's premier destination for world-class entertainment, fostering outstanding educational and outreach programs and operating state-of-the-art facilities. It offers the best in live theatre, concerts, comedy and dance entertainment. The Center is also home to the Palace Theatre. Hailed as 'Connecticut's Most Magnificent' when it opened in 1927, this 1,580-seat vaudeville house was restored in 1983 for live theatre, concerts and art exhibitions in the Sackler Gallery. The Palace Improvement Project has since enhanced the Palace Theatre with a larger stage, new dressing rooms, updated technical facilities and improved services.

Stamford features some of the best nature trails and parks in the state. Cummings Park, a public beach, was developed in 1906 and also features a public marina, boat launch and fishing pier. The 83-acre Cove Island Park, once a farm and later an enormous factory site, offers visitors a choice of beaches as well as picnic grounds and bluffs. It’s also home to a small wildlife sanctuary, the Sound Waters Community Center for Environmental Education and the Terry Connors Ice Rink which offers public ice skating, group lessons and ice hockey. Scalzi Park on Bridge Street has playgrounds, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, bocce courts, basketball courts, roller hockey courts and a baseball stadium named “Cubeta Stadium.” Stamford boasts two municipal golf courses: Sterling Farms Golf Course and E. Gaynor Brennan Golf Course, referred to locally as Hubbard Heights. Mill River Park, located in the center of downtown, was designed by Olin Associates — the same firm that designed Bryant Park in New York City.
